High temperatures are in the 20s today with mostly cloudy skies as winds die down. All of Connecticut is under a winter weather alert beginning this afternoon. Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven counties are under a Winter Storm Warning tonight.
According to the weather service, a “hazardous weather outlook provides a summary of potential widespread hazardous weather events that may reach NWS warning criteria.”
The shelters are scheduled to remain open from the evening of Thursday, Dec. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m.
Gov. Ned Lamont activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol for the holiday and over the weekend. The protocol begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday as arctic air settles into the state.
Lamont announced that the cold weather protocol would run from Thursday to Sunday to protect homeless residents from "arctic conditions."
"The first accumulating snow of the season is possible Saturday night into Sunday morning, with the highest chance of snow accumulation further south and east across the region," the forecasters' discussion said. National Weather Service meteorologist said they expect the storm to be "relatively dry and fluffy," making for easier snow shoveling.
